Döner Kebab, Pattaya

Haha didn't expect to take this long to show you the DAMN yummy kebab that I had in Pattaya! So I was in Pattaya for 3 days 2 nights, just a quick getaway. Went for a pretty good seafood dinner on Day 1 and had a chance to go the the fmaous Casa Pascal for buffet breakfast before flying back to Malaysia!

I had this kebab after our trip to Koh Larn, an island about 45 minutes away from Pattaya. We had lunch there but it was just this small portion rice with red curry at the side. Red curry's ingrediants were 3 strands of chicken and a few more strands of long beans:S

It's just a humble little food stall with one rotating meat station but his kebab sure packs a punch!

He was very generous with the fillings! Gave me so much chicken that's normally used for 2 portion of kebab!! And the best thing is that it's only 60 Baht!!! Very yummy, very worth it!

So give it a try if you're around the vicinity! He'll asked if you want to eat it on the spot or take away. I told him I'm eating it now so he wrapped it half opened like in the picture above! This kebab was intended as a tea time snack but it was so filling that it became my dinner.

That's why I always say that theres no such thing as a bad place to visit. Pattaya may be a little slow- mo for me but that Doner's kebab is probably the best kebab I have ever eaten in my entire life! Serious.

P.S. I just googled and "Doner Kebab" is a Turkish dish made from meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie. That means this kebab stall doesn't really have a specific name:S Good thing I took a picture of his stall so you guys can find him! 

Seafood Dinner @ Nang Nual, Pattaya

Back with more updates because I have a little more free time this week! So I had a short getaway to Pattaya about three months back and I managed to find three good eats there! The first would be buffet breakfast at Casa Pascal, the second is this seafood dinner and the third is my upcoming post on probably the best kebab I've ever tasted!!

One thing about Pattaya is that it's hard to find street vendors. I don't want to make sweeping accusations la, but based on my experience it was so hard to find street vendors other than those selling orange juice. Talking about orange juice, Kave recommended me to try Thai's orange juice because she said it was really good and cheap. One bottle cost 20 Baht I think and while it was very fresh, it wasn't our typical orange so it has this kelat aftertaste. Their orange look more of a lime species:

Ok, back to the seafood dinner story. We reached Pattaya beach are around 7pm (Thai time) which was about 8pm (Malaysia time). Was super duper hungry and was hoping to eat something authentically Thai. Walked all the way to Walking Street, a famous tourist attraction, expecting to find street vendors like those in Bangkok but don't have! Found a few food trucks but those look like they cater more to locals i.e. the Thai people working there. 

Oh! Now I remember why we walked to Walking Street! I wanted to find this seafood restaurant called "Marine Seafood" which had rather good reviews on Trip Advisor. However, the review did wrote that it was quite difficult to locate Marine Seafood because it's tucked between alleys. With a rather whiny travel mate and a very hollow stomach, I just couldn't comb through each alley to find it so we settled for another seafood restaurant on Waking Street.

This is Nang Nual on Walking street. It's situated further down the road towards the pier. Very bright and clean restaurant that you wouldn't miss!

If I've not mistaken, this place serves Chinese style Thai cuisine. So of course you can find Thai food like tom yam and what not here but the cooking style is very Chinese. Once you walked into the restaurant you will be greeted with all kinds of seafood!! I think you can pick and choose the seafood that you would like to have because I've seen people choosing fishes and what not then instructing the waiters how they want it cooked. 

I didn't go through all that hassle though because it's not like I'm a pro in seafood also LOL So I left it in the hands of the restaurant people. Some pictures:

Mr Lobster. Not a big fan of lobster meat because I feel like it's texture is in between a crab and a prawn so the in between texture confuses my brain. It's a bit mushy also so by far I haven't found a cooking style that brings out the loveliness of the lobster meat.

Prawns are more of my thing and the prawns here were pretty huge! It was quite big till I didn't know if they were big prawns or baby lobsters if not for the labels:S

Fishes and vegetables.

The waiters there weren't the friendliest bunch so we had to make our way to the seating area ourselves. Initially was very unsure if we should actually pick the seafood first or what? No one told us anything so I just followed the crowd LOL On the way to the dining area, I noticed this wine shop! I think you can select your wine to go with dinner! Not so much of an alcohol person so I gave it a pass.

This is Nang Nual's seating area!!!! It's by the beach! I don't know why but I was so surprised that it was this pretty!! Probably was just expecting to get my stomach filled before going back to the hotel. But yes, it was very beautiful and quite romantic I would say.

After standing there for like 5 minutes like a goon, finally a kind waitress asked how many of us were there and showed us to a table. The theme of this restaurant is marine I think because you see everything is blue and white and the waiter were dressed in those sailor uniform! So cool!!

There, the waitress in sailor clothes. Very facinated with the overall theme and deco. It's pretty simple but just really really beautiful.

We agreed that we should have a Tom Yum soup so we chose seafood tom yam! I think this was about 250 Baht. I lost the receipt so I can't be certain. Total bill was about 1,000+ Baht

 (Approximately RM100) for all three dishes, rice and drinks.

The tom yum didn't taste like what we usually have here in Malaysia probably because they use a lot of dry chilli and it didn't taste as sour. The seafood was fresh and they were very generous with it. Despite the soup looking rather clear, it was SPICY! We ate up all the ingrediants but didn't manage to finish up the soup. I think we probably had 1/4 of it then too spicy to go on with all the mucus flowing HAHAHA

I was rather autocratic on having a fish in whole because I usually don't get to eat it. Good thing Nit was agreeable to order a huge ass fish too if not I'd probably be eating it on my own anyway lol. 

We ordered this spicy steam fish and it was the star of the day! Gravy was heavenly! So flavourful, spicy with a tint of sweetness coming through.The fish was super fresh with very thick meat. Forgot what type of fish this was. Normally I will have problem ordering a fish in whole because I don't know the name of the fish I want. When doing groceries, I'd pick out the fish based on its look but I never knew their name HAHA Surprisingly I manage to name the fish that I want then, which I have now forgotten:S

Don't underestimate this mix vege dish because it was our LIFE SAVER from both of the spicy food!! The tom yam was like dragon breath spicy and the steamed fish was spicy but sedap so die die also we drank every drop of steam fish gravy then faster eat vege to counter the spiciness. The fish itself isn't that spicy but probably because it came hot so it accentuated the spiciness. 

My coconut shake! Nothing beats Klebang's coconut shake though. Malaysia Boleh!

Leaving you with a few more pictures of my dinner because I've got to go prepare dinner already before the cows come home! Oh yes, Nang Nual serves Western meals like fish and chips and what not too! I saw people having Western like so sedap onlyyy! But didn't regret our orders though because it was pretty good! The table next to us, a couple dating (hehe) ordered this flaming dessert which looked very impressive.

Buffet Breakfast @ Casa Pascal, Pattaya

Hello readers I'm back! Sorry took a while to find time to scribble something on my food blog. I went to Pattaya for a short trip w my BFF about 3 months back and I was all eager to come back and write about this breakfast place because I find that it's super cheap and quite yums! But you know, as soon as I got back I was meeting deadlines after deadlines- I was crazy enough to go off for a short holiday in the midst of chaos :S

Anyway, by hook or crook I'm writing about this place! A little background story of my trip, this is my first time to Pattaya. Why Pattaya? It's because my BFF only has 3D2N off yet she wanted to go for a budget holiday overseas. This was when AirAsia just open up a new route to Pattaya so we bought the tickets for cheap! I think it was not more than RM200.

There was nothing much in Pattaya but the things there were quite cheap. I was surprised that my tour package to Koh Larn, an island 45 mins away only cost me about 300 Baht if I've not mistaken! I also noticed that the hotels and restaurants in Pattaya have really cheap breakfast buffet going for approximately 150- 250 Baht!

I planned this trip and gosh, did was I excited for Casa Pascal on our last day! I purposely put breakfast buffet on our last day so we can go back happy and satisifed (also because I don't order in- flight meals LOL). 

Breakfast at Casa Pascal was only 225 Baht!!! Since there were only both of us so we just walk- in without reservation. The restaurant was just a 10 minutes walk from our hotel so it was very convinient as well!

Once you stand in front of that big sign at the main road, you will be able to see the restaurant!

The first thing that welcomed us was this grill outside the restaurant! Was super excited because that means they can prepare any type of eggs you want!! Initially I wasn't expecting a grill since its a 225 Baht buffet but boy, was I wrong!

The waitress was really nice and friendly. They got us seated and off we went packing on our breakfast plate! I was sending Nit loose on her leash HAHAHHA

Cold cuts

I was selective of my meat so I didn't get to try everything. I skipped the fish too because it looked so salty haha I had a bit of the salads and it was pretty fresh! Not really a salad person in the morning so this one just ate a bit bit for the sake of trying la. 

Nit went for a few rounds so I'm sure the cold cuts were pretty good. They are also very efficient to restock once the meats on the plate were being emptied. As soon as I took this picture, the guy then took the plates into the kitchen to get it replenished but I was too lazy to take another shot of the the fully replenished platter.

Hot food!

I had A LOT of mushrooms because they seasoned it so well and also roasted it so well with butter! I think in total I had almost a whole plate of mushrooms. Of course I didn't piled it up all in a plate la, I just went back for many small servings, each time the heap increases HAHAHA

Something that I was really looking forward to was the croissants!!

I've read reviews that their bread and pastries were top notch! People actually go back to this place just because of the croissants! I was almost jumping when I saw these breads. All nicely placed in baskets (I LOVE breads in basket! Dont know why?) waiting to be cut! Yup, those were big breads and you can slice as much as you want!

While the croissants were quite yums, those were not the best croissants that I've tasted. It was more bread-y than flaky. I love the flaky buttery ones better, like those sold at Touche, PJ.

Next was desserts! While I loved their passion fruit creme trifle, the others weren't as good.

Passion fruit trifle at the back was very yums! Not too sweet and that tartness from the passionfruit, ooh la la!! The bread pudding (with the swirl) was nasty. We each had one bit and that's it, nobody wanted another. The creme brulee in the transparent glass was edible but not quite enjoyable.

They also serve waffle and pancakes! These you have to order and the kitchen will whip them up for you! I went over to the bread counter and took a piece of butter, went to the dessert counter and took the maple syrup for some drizzle. Maple syrup has gotta be my favourite!!!

I was thinking what were those tiny yellow cubes floating around in that bowl of water. Since it was close to those fishes, I thought it was some kind of preserved beancurd. After curiously poking it with the tong, I realised that it was butter LOL

They also served yogurt! I'm not sure whether this is for kids because it's Disney but it was really yums! I had a few cups of yogurts because they were so good! Nit took a yogurt too but then she decided that it wasn't worth her stomach place so I help her to put it back :S

Had a lot of fruits too because you know usually when travelling who eats vege/ fruits? :P

Oh ya, remember the outdoor grill that they had? We ordered our breakfast eggs here!!! You have to go outside and tell her your order. She speaks English so she will understand you easily but don't say anything too fast or complicated la.

You can choose to add in whatever you want! I had my scrambled eggs with cheese only. Not a big fan of onions and obviously NOT a big fan of tomatoes.

Look at this pretty platter! This one was Nit's! I borrow her serving to take a picture because mine didn't look very pretty- eggs and cheese, duh.

Their grilled chicken and chicken sausage was very yums!!! Nit graciously gave me on of her grilled chicken later on hehe My eggs were a little overdone, but since there was cheese I forgave her LOL By far, the only person that cooks really good scrambled eggs is my sis. Even I can't cook scrambled eggs as good as she does. Somehow mine will turn out like baby food :S

It was a really hearty breakfast. If you're in Pattaya, you should give Casa Pascal a go! Not the best buffet breakfast I've ever had but for 225 Baht, it was pretty good.
