Döner Kebab, Pattaya

Haha didn't expect to take this long to show you the DAMN yummy kebab that I had in Pattaya! So I was in Pattaya for 3 days 2 nights, just a quick getaway. Went for a pretty good seafood dinner on Day 1 and had a chance to go the the fmaous Casa Pascal for buffet breakfast before flying back to Malaysia!

I had this kebab after our trip to Koh Larn, an island about 45 minutes away from Pattaya. We had lunch there but it was just this small portion rice with red curry at the side. Red curry's ingrediants were 3 strands of chicken and a few more strands of long beans:S

Doner Chicken Kebab
In front of The Avenue, Pattaya

Doner's Kebab food truck!

It's just a humble little food stall with one rotating meat station but his kebab sure packs a punch!

He was very generous with the fillings! Gave me so much chicken that's normally used for 2 portion of kebab!! And the best thing is that it's only 60 Baht!!! Very yummy, very worth it!

So give it a try if you're around the vicinity! He'll asked if you want to eat it on the spot or take away. I told him I'm eating it now so he wrapped it half opened like in the picture above! This kebab was intended as a tea time snack but it was so filling that it became my dinner.

That's why I always say that theres no such thing as a bad place to visit. Pattaya may be a little slow- mo for me but that Doner's kebab is probably the best kebab I have ever eaten in my entire life! Serious.

P.S. I just googled and "Doner Kebab" is a Turkish dish made from meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie. That means this kebab stall doesn't really have a specific name:S Good thing I took a picture of his stall so you guys can find him!

Putu Bambu Durian @ Putu Bambu Mek, Melaka

So I noticed that Blogger has an app! This makes blogging much easier for me because Im very swamped these days and the only time that I have would be spent on bed. So this helps, I can blog from my phone when I'm resting in bed hahaha

The only problem is that I cant seem to find the words alignment option. Hold on gimme a moment to get use to this.

Nope, the app cant do. They still got a lot of fixing to do before I can properly blog there. Anyway, Im still blogging with my mobile but Im using the website view instead so thats okay.

Wanted to introduce to you this new putu bambu stall in Melaka but this was in my draft months ago so... its not so new now LOL

But if you are a durian fan and you cant get enough of all things durian then this post is for you! You know, the durian season is coming to an end after all.

Putu Bambu Mek
Right next to Klebang Coconut Shake!

I'm back typing using my laptop because mobile blogging just can't do for me especially since I'm rather particular with spacing and font size etc. Okay, a little story about how I found this. It was that evenful day that we were in Melaka as a detour before we head back to JB. Obviously, Klebang coconut shake has become a ritual whenever we step foot in Melaka but unfortunately it was close that day! Dang.

But at least the trip to Klebang wasn't wasted because I noticed a new stall right next to it! It's right at the main road so it's easily spotted. What caught my attention was the word "Durian" LOL

This! Very catchy from the main road so you won't miss it

Prepping my orders

Despite the stall being quite clean, I dont know why were they so many flies around. Ya, I know like I'm contradicting myself but I know a clean stall when I see one. Can see that they took the effort to maintain hygiene but the flies... oh gosh, might make some think twice.

I didn't care much though because I saw my putu coming out pipping hot from the steamer and roller over clean shredded coconut so I just closed one eye about the flies buzzing around the ordering corner.

I chose a mix of durian putu (in yellow) and normal putu (in green)

Generally its easy to look for good putu in Melaka because they are, afterall, famous for their gula melaka which is an essential for this snack. The durian putu however was not up to my expectation because it smelt better than it tasted la. So basically you smell this really thick durian aroma in the air but once you put it into your mouth, you barely taste any durian.

I was actually hoping to taste little chucks of the fruit which sounds rather impractical but yeah, they could do better. Prices at RM4 if I've not recalled wrongly, it still makes a pleasant snack to have by the beach. Yes, the beach is just behind you as you place your order.

Dima Restaurants: Bukit Beruang & Oasis Damansara Ara

It's a busy time for me now because I'm rushing to churn out a paper for a conference. Recently attended this training on NVivo software that is really a God sent! I used to analyse data manually when I had fewer transcripts. But for my PhD the data is a little too massive for me to do it manually. I mean I can but NVivo really helps me organise better.

Big hugs to the one who got me Nvivo to be installed in my lappy. Anyway, why am I talking about this is because I can't sleep and decided to continue on my data analysis but my NVivo is not working! GRR.

So I decided to use my awake-ness to blog if not I bet I won't have time to blog till somewhere in November. Yikes!

I went to Melaka for a extended family trip last month. Since we were in Melaka Naomi was bugging me to take her to the Shawarma shop. According to her, they have the BEST shawarma! We manage to make a quick trip to Bukit Beruang to get the Shawarma while they check in the hotel.

Dima Restaurant
Bukit Beruang, Melaka

There you have it! An easily spotted side lot shop

Shawarma maker

The workers there look very middle eastern so I trust their cooking skills. I mean who would be a better chef than the food native right? He wasn't very smiley though LOL Oh well, as long as he cooks well.

One whole bag of Shawarma

The story of the Shawarma is this. Oh ya but before that, in case you don't know what is a Shawarma, it's a marinated chicken wrap. I have never tried Shawarma before this because I'm a kebab fan. Naomi was raving about Shawarma since her Langkawi trip so I decided to give it a go.

Intially I ask Naomi to pack us one each thinking that it would be quite pricey. They would cost at least RM8 elsewhere. Wasn't sure if it was really as good as raved so I decided to play safe. But when she came into the car and told me that one Shawarma only cost RM5 I asked her to go down and get more HAHAHAHA

Where else to find RM5 authentically made Shawarma!!!!

Took this picture to note the address of the other outlets.

So they do have an outlet in KL! It's located at Oasis Damansara Ara. I was a little skeptical when I was told earlier that we have a Dima in KL but now since it's officially imprinted on their plastic bag I cant argue right? lol

When  I came back to KL, I visited Dima again in Oasis Damansara Ara! I'll be writting about it later on in this post so hang on.

Here, the exact address of  Dima Melaka

Rebecca enjoying her Shawarma

For a RM5 Shawarma they are really generous! Thick juicy chicken chunks in a warm wrap

Okay, I just noticed that there are really fries in the wrap!

Naomi told me that authentic Shawarma has fries inside. Her Arabian friend told her one. I was thinking why was she telling me that because I didn't realised the fries in my Shawarma but she insisted that hers had. Okay, so now that I'm reviewing the picture I see the fries HAHAHHA

I was probably too excited that it cost RM5 and was distracted at how nicely wrapped and warm it felt in my hands to bother about fries. Talking about fries in Arabian food, I am a bit perplex. Fries is a western thing right? But whenever I have Middle Eastern meals I realised that they have fries as side dish! And now, fries in Shawarma marks a good Shawarma?

So yeah, the Shawarma from Dima Melaka was good. Not mindblowingly awesome but it was pretty good! Maybe I too used to having Kebab la. But one thing for sure, Shawarma taste 100000x better than Falafel. Falafel is a vegetarian wrap I suppose- the fillings tasted like they were made up by some beans.

Dima Restaurant
Oasis Damansara Ara, PJ

This is the PJ outlet

Picture for address

So we decided to pay the PJ branch a visit hoping that it would be as good and cheap as the Melaka one so we need not travel all the way to Melaka for Shawarma. Nope, I'm not kidding Naomi actually did that. Well, I would too for my favourite food. Maybe not Shawarma but Asam Pedas LOL

A proper order this time

This time we went there for dinner so we ordered a full course meal. The other time in Melaka, the Shawarma was just for teatime snacks. So this time in PJ we had Chicken Mandy (thats the chicken on top of the rice) and Malawah bread with Hummus. By the way, Malawah is my favourite bread because it's like crispy pancake! Mad loves!! When it's served hot it goes so well with Hummus, which is chick peas.

The Malawah bread here was not bad, I tasted better but it was really not bad. The hummus wasn't as tasty as the places that I've been to. I've been to one Arabian shop somewhere near UIAM when I met my supervisor from US. OMG, that is like one of the best Middle Eastern shop everrr!! I didn't note the name of the place though, dang it.

One more shot

The Chicken Mandy was not bad too. I tasted better but still okay la. One of my favourite Chicken Mandy is opposite Sunway Pyramid. That's like the cheapest and one of the yummiest Chicken Mandy.

When I first had this dish, I was a little disgusted by the look of the chicken because it looks so weirdly coloured and had a stale chicken texture. When served with tomato cordiment I was a little mood out because it looked like wet cubbed tomatoes (not my favourite vege) but behold! When I had the first bite I fell heads over heads with this dish!!

Btw, Middle Eastern food keeps me full for a longer period of time. Was wondering if anyone else experienced the same thing? Maybe it's the Yemen spices? lol

Shawarma

So the star of the day arrived! First difference I spotted was that the Shawarma was cut into two. My sis was a little dissapointed that it was served that way LOL I didn't mind the presentation if it tasted as good but... to our horror it tasted nothing like the Shawarma we got from Dima Melaka!

This had so much onions and the Shawarma scent wasn't there. It's more expensive than the Melaka one also! I think it was like RM8 or RM9!!! Definately can't compete with the Melaka one. So this means that we still need to travel to Melaka for good Shawarma after all LOL

Actually yesterday, I had dinner at Saba Restaurant, Cyberjaya and they have really good Chicken Mandy. Didn't try their Shawarma but they have them too! But why all these yummy Middle Eastern shops for far awayyyy:(

But!! One plus point for Dima, Oasis Ara Damansara is that they have ice- cream! WOOT!!

Vanilla and chocolate swirl with coloured sprinkles. Very cute, I like!

The side that has more hundreds and thousands, teehee

Not a fan of sprinkles? Choose chocolate syrup instead!

Ice- creams are always fun to have so even if Dima's ice- cream is nothing to shout about I would still recommend!

Okay, till the next post! I have so much to blog about!! I've pending Kuching food blog to write but I really have insufficient time. Even if I had the extra time, I'd rather lay down and rest hahaha I just thought of how I could still analyse data manually while I wait for someone to help fix this NVivo problem.

Catch you later!

The Ice- cream Project @ Jalan Dhoby, JB

I'm suppose to go out for dinner with Rebecca but as we were just about to leave the house it poured heavily! So now we are waiting for the rain to subside before leaving. Gosh, my appetite is cranky again. I know it's meal time but Im not feeling that hungry but I don't feel like eating:(

Anyway, yesterday was super fun because I brought Reb out for some ice- cream! She has been wanting to try this for a long time but didn't had a chance too. So off we go for our sister's day out!

TIP, The Ice- cream Project
31 Jalan Dhoby

A swing outside TIP

Selfie in front of the shop because it's sisters day out <3

The thing about TIP is that it's apparently a very famous place to get ice- cream in JB. Maybe it's because we don't have many ice- cream parlours around. Anyway, my point is you can't expect the best customer service there la. In fact once I entered, I somehow have the feeling that the people there are very stuck up. Initially, I thought that it's just me so I just brushed it aside but when I met up with Wawa today she said that memang the boss there isn't too friendly.

This shop gave me the same feeling when I visit China House in Penang for cakes. It's not to say that the waiters there, wait I dont think I should call them waiters because no one will wait after you. It's all self service. Well, the workers there aren't rude but it's just that they give you this snobbish feeling which is my pet peeve.

A few pictures of ice- cream in the making:

It's quite cool to see the nitrogen that is being used to freeze your ice- cream! Oh yes, your ice- cream will be made only when ordered and that's why it tasted very fresh! Love how the milk tasted, it was literally eating frozen creamy FRESH milk!

Interior of the shop

Pretty cool nook

Though they have limited space in the shop there was more than ample seats for everyone when I was there but I could imagine that during a full house probably customers will get sightly uncomfortable especially those sitting right in front of the ice- cream maker. That's because everyone would be flocking that are while waiting for their ice- cream to be made.

One huge ass mirror really good for selfies

Brownies & Cream, RM14

There are only four flavours of ice- cream on the menu. Totally forgot what the other three were but yeah that's all you got! They do have an extensive menu of teas though. Initially I thought the tea menu were ice- cream flavours because it is an ice- cream shop right? But no, you only have four ice- cream choices.

A little disappointed because I was going to order the Earl Grey flavour HAHAHAHA Turns out it was tea so nah. Still puzzled by the lack of options of ice- cream in an ice- cream shop. They might as well be a tea parlour:S

Reb finally getting to try TIP!

FREE water!

Yes, they do provide you with free water if you would like to quench your thirst after having ice- cream. Though TIP's ice- cream wasn't too sweet, in fact I loved how it tasted and need not drink water after that I still went for the free water just because HEHE.

Of course, everything there is self service. You will see the self service sign everywhere. When I mean everywhere, I do mean everywhere. The first sign that you see greeting you at the entrance of the door is a self- service sign. Then when you enter I probably spot three to four similar signs inside that small area.

TIP screams SELF- SERVICEEEE!

Then they also have a self- service sign above the free water station indicating that you should order, pay, get the ice- cream by yourself. Don't expect anyone to clean up after you're done yes? See that containers next to the free water station? That's where you ditch your paper cups and what not.

All in all, I love their ice- cream because it really tasted fresh and authentic. Brownies and cream did tasted like the real brownie crumbles and milk cream! But then again, for RM14 I won't be able to have it on a regular basis. Probably once in a blue moon, so definitely an indulgence!

Waffle Sandwiches @ Julicious, Kota Damansara

Hola!

I've done so much during the weekend so now my brain is goddamn saturated. I wrote my first draft of findings for publication, ran two interviews and planned my holiday itinerary. Just secured a few more interviews a few minutes ago. Once Simren gets me a nurse and two northern interviewees then I'm all set! Can buy air flight tickets already! So I'm hoping I get to settle this by this week! Enough about myself, so I'm here to show you my supper I had on Friday!

Julicious Waffle Sandwiches
Sunway Giza, Kota Damansara

Julicious Food Truck

Note that Julicious is a food truck so I suppose you would have to check their Facebook for their location that they will be at. However, I'm assuming that they will be at Kota Damansara because that was where I found them! To be exact, they are situated next to RHB Bank at Sunway Giza.

Actually I had my dinner at 9pm so at 11 I was still full but the word "waffles" attracted me! Initially I thought they serve sweet waffles sandwiches like waffles with chocolate spread etc but when I drop by I found out that they only serve savoury kinds. I still decided to give it a shot though because it's the first waffle sandwich here!

Menu

They only have four types of waffle sandwiches on the menu but it's good in a way because it makes it easier for customers to decide which and it should be easier for them to thoroughly prep their menu. I'd rather a few great tasting choices than 100 mediocre choices.

All their waffles are prices at RM6 which is reasonable for what you will be getting. I'll show you my waffle sandwich later but first here is a picture of the young entrepreneurs cooking up a storm!

Cooks busy making waffle and cooking meat, the guy in green outside was a superb 'waiter'

The service there is really good so that makes me a happy customer! I stood there looking at the menu while being a little blur because I expected sweet waffles haha But the guy in green came almost instantly to greet me and to help me choose my waffle sandwich!

I asked which one would he recommend and he says that it would definitely be the Grilled Chicken Waffle Sandwich RM6. So that I ordered!

They also have Berrynade their signature lemonade with berries I presume? RM3 per cup. I saw lots of people ordering it so it should be good! But I didn't because I spent too much on my pizza dinner and I even bought two Polo buns for supper before I stumble upon Julicious LOL

Grilled Chicken Waffle Sandwich, RM6

I like the waffle because it tasted a little sweet! I was expecting to get a tasteless waffle because its savoury right? But no, they have rather good waffles. It would be better if its more crunchy though. So in between the waffles you will have a rather huge piece of grilled chicken, vegetables and sloppy sauces which makes it oh so good!

I love the curry powder taste on the grilled chicken!!! So addictive! They have very good sauces as well. When you eat it, it will be like eating Sloppy Joe- Messy but delicious!

Yummy waffles

See that big slab of chicken? That's what you get! For me it's worth my RM6

One serving would be make a great supper treat but if you were to eat it as a meal then you might need to get two.

Happy eating everyone!

Now I gotta think of what to cook for this whole week before going out for groceries. Till the next post!

Milkcow Organic Soft Serve Ice- cream @ Sunway Pyramid

I don't know why I have been very restless these days. It's like I can't sit down for long to do work because I will feel bored and then grumpy. Problem is most of my work requires long hours of sitting down in a quiet room to do work =.=

Weekday meals has also begin to seem boring and time consuming hence, somewhat burdensome. Somehow I'm losing interest in cooking cheap meals but I still do it to save money. These days I keep having cravings for outside food! Especially street food, snacks, finger food... you know all the unhealthy food? :P

I have also been craving for soft served ice- cream! The thing about ice- cream is that I love having them outside; as in buying from shop and eat but not buying them and storing them in my fridge. Even my favourite Haagen Dazs ice- cream becomes unappetizing when it's bought home in a tub for eating:S

Milkcow
LG, Sunway Pyramid

Milkcow!!!

Okay, so this is one of the things that would definately make my day right now! The only thing that is keeping me from imploding is Mozart on Youtube. Thank God for that.

So the other day when my aunties came up, we decided to try the rather new Milkcow ice- cream!! The Sunway Pyramid branch is the newer branch, Midvalley is slightly older. Have been waiting to try this ice- cream for the longest time ever and thanks to my aunts I got them FREE! hehe

Menu for you, you're welcome

There were so many interesing ice- creams that I didn't know which to pick? So I went with the rather popular honey comb one. Since we are all sharing the ice- cream, my aunt asked me to pick another (OMGGG! YESSS!!).

So I looked through the menu and chose something that would excited kids i.e. my little cousins. Since their mum is footing the bill I thought it would be considerate of me to pick something that would appease their daughters/ grandkids.

Honey Comb with milky soft served ice- cream

I love the milky soft served ice- cream because of it's heavy full cream milk taste! I could actually eat it without the honey comb (Milky Way, RM8) and be satisfied! The honey comb did come as a surplus though. It was nice to have but you might want to properly mix the honey with the ice- cream while eating and not eating it by itself once you finish the ice- cream. That was what I did and holy moly! It was SWEEEEEEET.

After finishing on my honey, the honey comb taste funny like some plastic residue on my tongue so what I did was suck up all the honey, get this super sweet shock, then spit out the honey comb LOL Maybe I'd opt for the honey instead of the honey comb next time (Milky honey, RM11). Saves all the hassle.

Honey Cube RM13, Quite a generously huge chunk of honey comb

More honey combs! Somehow I was a little skeptical about honey combs because I have this perception that bees might get stuck inside so I was quite watchful as I ate it, haha.

Ha! Guess what was the ice- cream that I picked out for sharing?

Freshly made only upon order...

Snow Drop, RM11!!!

This soft served ice- cream is served with cotton candy, organic salt and jelly beans at the bottom. Needless to say the kids were ecstatic about the cotton candy! Happy kids, happy mum. The ice- cream wasn't milky though it was just the normal vanilla kind but I like that it had a pinch of salt to it! The jelly beans were rock frozen when we got to it so it was hardly edible.

Despite Snow Drop being prettier, I still preferred the Milky Cube!

I AM CRAVING FOR THEIR MILKY SOFT SERVED ICE- CREAM SO BAD!!!

*Licks picture of ice- cream on laptop screen. LMAO, joking!

Gotta get them soon!
