Singapore & Malaysia (MUSIC VIDEO) - Fung Bros

Watch this to unwind! Super funny video on Malaysia/ Singaporean food!!

My favourite is the second half the vid from 2:35!! I've watched it over 5 times and I'm still laughing my ass off! Really really good video by Fung Brothers!

"Been around the world, don't speak the language, it's either Singlish or Manglish, All I understand is when you... .... Cook curry for me!"

HAHAHHHAHA

Like max!

Jaipur Curry House, Bangsar + The Loaf, Sunway Pyramid

It's public holiday today and I got the rare chance to meet up with my bestie for breakfast. Since she's vegetarian I've gotta think of a place that offers good food, both vegetarian and non vegetarian. Sometimes I sigh when I think about suggesting our old favourite places such as Manhattan Fish Market, Sushi King, Steamboat (I mean not for breakfast) because obviously it would be insensitive to do so.

That's one of the reasons why I always have a headache thinking of where to go. For me it's not worth it paying for vegetarian food that's the same price as meat food. But I still want to go out and have good food with my bestie *Big sighs LOL

Anyway, today we decided to go for breakfast in our favourite shop! Jaipur Curry House!

Jaipur, Bangsar

This indian shop is located right opposite the Ramadhan bazaar. Same row as Secret Recipe. It's probably one of the few shops that I can find my putu mayam. Back in my hometown, this Indian uncle will usually ride his bike and sell putu mayam so we just have to stop him to get one pack of yummy putu mayam with lots of brown sugar and coconut.

Well, here in KL I have not seen such Indian uncle around. Maybe not around my housing estate. I hardly see Malay aunties selling yummy kuih. Where are all these uncles and aunties???

Btw, for those who are not familiar with putu mayam. It's an Indian delicacy made from rice flour if I've not mistaken. It looks like some kinda spider web vermicelli.

Simple interior Jaipur

Oh yes, Jaipur serves really good beryiani too! I think their beryiani is priced at RM10+. There is a option or chicken of mutton if I've not mistaken. Chicken is slightly cheaper than mutton but for me mutton taste better. And yes, they have vegetarian beryiani as well.

When I say good it's really good because I recommended this place to one of my friend and he was sold after giving their beryiani a go! He's a big curry/spice fan so if Jaipur meets his criteria then you know that it's really really good hehe

Of course they do serve banana leaf rice as well, both vegetarian and non- vegetarian. They also have all types of roti (e.g. roti canai, telur, bom, apam, puri etc) on the menu.

Indian uncle flipping/ stretching the dough to make roti canai

You could actually see the puri (deep fried dough) in the picture below. Usually when it's served to me it's still all puffed up but in the picture it has flatten :S

Mix rice dishes

So for breakfast, my first serving was putu mayam with brown sugar and coconut, RM0.80 and a piece of chicken currypuff, RM1.30. I have been craving for putu mayam for a long time and finally today my craving was fulfilled! Usually I crave that for dinner when I'm just sick and tired of eating all the complicated food- all I want is something light and easy i.e. putu mayam LOL

FYI, I only eat my putu mayam with brown sugar and coconut. Love how the sweetness of the sugar and the fattiness of the coconut merge! The thought of eating it with curry turns me off. Regardless, there are in fact many people who eats it with curry.

1st serving, putu mayam and currypuff

Swirled Putu mayam till all mixed up with sugar + coconut, heavenly!

Nit's drink Bru coffee w fresh cow's milk, RM3.30. My drink Teh tarik kurang manis, RM1.30.

First round of breakfast wasn't enough for me so I had another piece of putu mayam. This time I also ordered deep fried bitter gourd, RM2 as my side dish. And no, we usually don't eat them together but I love fried bitter gourd so when it came out fresh from the kitchen I just had to get some!

Fried bitter gourd

I think Dr Vicki will disapprove of me snacking on fried food for breakfast, if she reads this post HAHA Oh ya, about the chicken currypuff it was okay. They were generous with the fillings where they give you chicken and potato but my only problem was that the currypuff was not hot. It did look hot in that heating tray though so I was expecting hot crunchy currypuffs.

I think where currypuff is concerned I still rank IKEA currypuff #1! Gotta go back for more IKEA currypuff one of these days.

The Loaf, Sunway Pyramid

One of my coursemate is leaving for Indonesia for good because he has completed his honours here and wouldn't be pursing PhD till further notice so we all had a farewell dinner last Sunday. All five of us (one more was already back in Indonesia), met at The Loaf, Sunway Pyramid for dinner.

I have tried their buns there (LOVE LOVE LOVE the cranberry cheese bun) but not their main courses so it was a first time for me. I ordered a lasagna, RM9.80 (before tax) and it was rather good. Love the salad as well because the dressing was sufficient in quantity and in taste (sweet sour).

Garfield's meal

All three of us had lasagna. The farewell guy had laksa and he said it was not tasty- very bland. Farewell guy also had green tea bun which was superb!! Soft, sweet and fragrant. Fathun and her sons had pizza and quiche which were yummy!

So the verdict, go for buns/ pastries when at The Loaf. Forget the meals.

Btw, self service was rather horrid especially when we ordered so many things and it came at different timings and all. They would ring the bell, say the name of the dish and we had to scramble to the counter to see if it's ours (by comparing our receipt and the receipt attached to the plate) or someone else's who happens to order the same thing:S

Bandung Day 2: Anata Salon

I figured that I should quickly finish up my Bandung trip post before I get too lazy to complete it or if my PhD application gets a bit crazy. So this is my day 2 post in Bandung. My day 2 started only at about 3pm because it was a Friday and Gaya had an exam so I enjoyed the morning in bed watching Master Chef Canada/ Korea/ Australia and Cupcake Wars!

It felt really good chilling in bed with my comforter, in a nice cool aircon weather minus the dryness of AC, watching really interesting TV series that I don't get to watch back here on TV. I loved Cupcake Wars so I think I'm going to watch the whole series online :D

Day 2 lunch was also free. I know, I was very much of a free loader till the 3rd day or so LOL Thanks to ibu, Gaya's maid I just had to walk lazily out to the hall and eat home cooked Indonesian cuisine:)

Day 2 home cooked lunch- FREE!

Clockwise: Tahu kicap (Soysauce tofu), Tempeh sambal (Spicy fermented soybean), Tauge goreng (Stir fry bean sprout), some kind of bony fish cooked in asam pedas style.

My favourite was the Tahu kicap followed by the Tempeh Sambal! Love the tofu there in Indonesia, it just taste really fresh and preservative free! Gaya said they can't afford to put in chemicals to extend shelf life but hey! That's even better! Fresh soy products *thumbs up!

Gaya came home earlier then expected and she took me for a ride to Anata Saloon! We rode an Angkut (cheap taxi- like transport) for RM0.50. Reached Anata Saloon about 5 minutes later.

Gaya and I in the Angkut

Enjoying the ride!

I really liked the experience of riding angkut because its so cheap and its so much fun! It wouldn't take long for you to spot an angkut so it's very convinient. Just flag the angkut like how you would flag a taxi. Then then angkut will stop and you hop on the angkut. By hop, I really mean hop because there's no doors to the vehicle you just hop in!

A picture of angkut from Google

Once we reached Anata Saloon, Gaya told the person in charge what service we wanted and was brought to a room specially for creambath hair treatment!! The entrance area was packed with people cutting, washing and blowing their hair.

It would probably be a good idea to make an appointment first before coming. Anyway, I was lucky enough to get a slot without an appointment on a Friday evening.

There are a few Anata outlets, but the one closest to me was the Sukajadi one.

Anata Saloon
Jl. Sukajadi, Bandung

Anata Saloon

Anata Saloon is situated on the top floor (level 2). You will have to walk pass their Anata bakery in front and then walk up a flight of stairs to the saloon. According to Gaya, the pastries at the bakery ain't yummy so I skipped sampling them.

First off, change into this tube kinda attire. This is because creambath hair treatment isn't just a creambath hair treatment. You will get back/ hand massage and back/ hand scrub too!! Indonesians are really generous I feel. In Malaysia, if you pay for hair treatment the most they will give you is an extra 10 sec scalp massage, that's it!

Changed into rob

After you have changed into that tube attire, they will start off with washing your hair. Once it's nice and clean, they will wrapped your hair like the picture below and get you seated in front of a mirror to begin applying the creambath hair treatment.

After washing hair, getting ready for hair treatment

Then they will apply this thick cream onto your hair and massage it in. I don't know if they then used ice cubes/ ice balls but it felt so cool and nice like some ice balls' rolling over my scalp!

It smelt really really good while she was working her magic fingers on my head. Gaya helped me to choose apple creambath which is good for oily scalp and dandruff. I've been having this oily scalp problem since I was writing my thesis. I suspected the stress screwed with my hormones or something and my scalp went bonkers:(

I had to wash my hair every single day or else it will get all oily and itchy and my precious hair will fall. The only problem is that when I wash my hair daily, my hair gets too dry. Argh, the trade off.

So I was really hoping that this creambath would help.

Creambath hair treatment time

Then after applying the cream, massaging etc they will wrap your hair up and let it soak! This is when they will move you to another section for half body massage. I couldn't take my camera along before I wanted to enjoy the rub, haha.

My hair all nicely wrapped, time for scrub and massage

I forgot if they used oil to massage? I was more focus on the tickle-ness of the massage instead so I didn't really notice what she used on my back, lolol. I'm a person who LOVES foot massage. I could have a 3 hour foot massage- massage my feet till I sleep please! But when it comes to body, uh oh!

It tickles really bad when people rubs/ press anywhere higher than my knees. And the lady was massaging my back, I was squirming around HAHAHHA. She asked if it hurts? I told her no, it just tickles. They would also use this machine thingy to massage your back, so for those with crocodile skin- who needs more than bare hands to do the job be rest assured you will get bang for buck too!

My favourite part, I mean second favourite, since the first favourite is the creambath treatment on my head, is the body scrub! They would nicely scrub your back and your arms till all the daki (dirt) comes rolling off onto the ground!

Sounds gross I know, looks gross too but your body will be so damn soft like baby's skin! I should have taken a picture of the body dirt on the ground, lol! Gaya has this lulur (scrub) in her bathroom too and she asked me to try it out. I did try but probably I wasn't patient enough to rub it as good as the ones they do for you at Anata.

After the massage and scrub, they will then wash your hair clean! Then you have the option to let it air dry or you could opt for them to blow it for you. Additional blowing cost extra RM3 so obviously I agreed! My hair needs to be blown, wouldn't want to risk my fresh scalp:)

After second hair wash

The blowing takes place at the entrance area so you will have to exit the creambath hair area.

Blowing hair

And... finish! Wala! Extremely pretty soft hair. Scalp was very clean as well because she gave it a good scrub! I wanted to go back for another hair treatment before I came back to Malaysia but I decided that I should try foot massage instead since I only had so much time.

After creambath hair treatment & blown hair

One more shot with fringe nicely clipped up

Then I waited for Gaya to finish blowing dry her hair. Her hair is much thicker and curlier than mine so it took the guy a while to finish her look.

Done!

There are many types of creambath that you could choose from. There is a folder menu which has all the offered service, description of services and price. Almost all of the services there are really affordable! They have mani/pedi service as well. I think it cost about RM30 but I'm not too sure of what nail polish that they would use.

My apple creambath treatment + blowing cost IDR95,000 (apprx RM28) so it was a steal!!! Hair treatments here in Malaysia would cost RM100+ so I really should have did one more hair treatment before coming back:(

They have this new hair spa creambath treatment which is slightly more expensive. I think it would cost around RM50 in total but still really cheap!

Probably would head over to Bandung once more with my mum and just enjoy cheap luxuries. I'm leaving you with a picture of the types of creambath that they offer just so you don't get blur like me. I just told the lady, apply whatever type I don't mind. Good thing Gaya was there to help me select. I didn't get to view the menu beforehand you see?

You're welcome.

Types of creambath treatment

p.s. I didn't had to wash my hair for the next TWO days and my scalp wasn't itchy or oily! So happy!

Bazaar Ramadhan: TTDI, Seksyen 17, Seksyen 16 & Shah Alam

This is probably a very holy month for the Muslims because it is the fasting month. It is also a month that really test their patience because they won't get to eat or drink till the sun sets.

For me, I'm always looking forward towards Ramadhan because of the food bazaar! Love the idea that I'd be spoilt for food. During normal days its just so hard to find an auntie that sells a variety of kuih here in KL. Okay, maybe there are aunties around selling them but it's just that I'm not too familiar with their stalls.

But during Ramadhan I will get to fulfill my accumulated cravings for kuih! It's so easy to get them. I just have to drive two streets away and stash up on my favourite appetisers!

By the way, talking about testing patience I realised that for me the abstinence from food and drink would still be bearable. What really tested my patience was getting food from the bazaar. I was still in my zen mode throughout the day untill I went to the bazaar at Taman Tun Dr. Ismail where it was so packed!!

Had to squeeze through so many people while getting nudge all over. One hand of mine was grasping my purse closely and the other was up defensively protecting my boobs. Uh huh, who likes the feeling of their boobs being pressed against the person in front of you? Yucks.

There would be very annoying people pushing you from behind when there is just no space to go! Even if you let them forward, they would just be stuck right in front of you =.="

And when you finally reach the stall that you would like to buy your food from, you either have to queue a very long queue or you would meet a seller that packs food like a snail. All of these uncomfortable conditions on top of it being super hot till you feel sweat dripping down your backs and in between your boobs is really... really... testing your patience!

But that being said, I'd gladly go to bazaars over and over again HAHA!

Bazaar Ramadhan TTDI, Jln Tun Mohd Fuad

This was the first bazaar that I went to on the first day of the fasting month itself! Usually I will get myself some kuih for appetisers and then a main dish like rice or noodles- mostly rice.

Nasi Ambeng, RM9

One of my all time favourite is Nasi Ambeng! I call it Nasi Ambang back in JB but maybe they have a slightly different name here in KL. Like how I call my soybean pudding "Tau Huay" back in my hometown but here in KL people call it "Taufufa".

Talking about Tau Huay, they have it at TTDI Bazaar and it looks very fresh and yummy! I'm not being racist but my personal opinion is that Tau Huay from Chinese aunties taste better (better texture) than the ones sold elsewhere. You can find them there too!

A picture of Tau Huay from Google

Back to Nasi Ambang/ Ambeng, my mum would always buy me this when Im back in JB. Its a dish where they serve you rice, noodles, meehoon, chicken, vegetables and salted fish! You just have to mix them together and enjoy the meal! Love love love the salted fish!

Thought I initially thought that the Nasi Ambang in TTDI is quite expensive, RM9 they really did give me a huge portion of meal! I had to eat it for two meals to finish it up! So it was worth it.

Nasi Ambeng preparation

Another of my favourite food is the Putu Piring! This is a steam rice flour (I think) with Gula Melaka inside! It my sisters' all time favourite too! This is also a snack that I can hardly find during normal days. I wonder where their stalls are?

Putu Piring

Piring means plate. It's probably called that because of the shape it takes- a flat plate shape. These also comes in other form like in a cylindrcal shape but those are call putu bambu. Bambu means bamboo. Served hot with shredded coconut so yummy!

Check out their steamer:

Putu Piring in Steamer

I forgot the exact price of the Putu Piring but I think it's RM4 for 8 pieces. If you decide to try this out be prepared to get in a long line. I was in the queue for about 30- 40 minutes! But the queue was worth it!

The sugar in the centre is rather special because she 'plucked' the thick sugar! So it wasn't those Gula Melaka pieces/ crumbs, it was more like dodol consistency. Thick and nice!

Dodol picture from Google

Half and hour queue

Samosa & Popiah, RM1 each

You can also find giant Samosa (chicken/ beef filling) and popiah (vege filling) at TTDI! Its really huge so RM1 is worth it! The popiah skin is a bit too thick for liking but I love the chili sauce that came with it.

Bazaar Ramadhan Seksyen 17, PJ

This bazaar is my favourite because they have a variety of food but then it is not too crowded so I don't have to rub my boobies on anyone. Their food here is rather yummy, you can find at 3- 4 kuih stalls, at least 4 rice stalls, noodles/ meehoon/ kuey teow stalls, chicken stalls, drink stalls, FRESH JUICE stalls!

Fresh juice can be sold with or without ice! So it wouldn't get diluted by the time you have it back at home. One packet RM3, two packets RM5. Their watermelon and orange juice looks sooooo good! But I usually scrooge on my drinks because I've already spent on my food so I haven't got a chance to try it yet.

This bazaar is way better then the Seksyen 14 one which is also very close by. So if you are around the area, might as well head over to Seksyen 17 (opposite Jaya One).

Nasi Kukus Ayam Berempah, RM5.50

The above stall sells Nasi Kukus Ayam Berempah (steamed rice with spiced fried chicken)! I love their chicken, it has very crispy skin which has just the right amount of seasoning and the size of chicken that they give is rather huge!

I like the fact that they sell the yummy chicken with white rice because they gravy that they provide... OH MY GOSH, really delicious! The gravy is called Gulai, initially I thought its sweeter version curry, haha.

Usually stalls will sell this spiced fried chicken only with Nasi Lemak so I'm happy that I get to find a stall that serves it with white rice and gulai. Loves!

Nasi Tomato, RM5

Another favourite dish is the Nasi Tomato (Tomato rice)! The rice doesn't really taste like tomato per se but it looks a bit reddish. I love it because it comes with my favourite chicken cooking style! Ayam Masak Merah!!! ALL TIME FAVOURITE!!

Gotta learn how to cook this dish when I have a proper kitchen!

Favourite kuih stall

This is my regular kuih stall. One piece of kuih is priced at RM0.40! Cheap and yummy!! I'll usually have up to 4 pieces for appetisers and maybe another 4 pieces for breakfast the next morning. They sell rather good currypuffs and popiah (spring rolls).

I realised that their sweet kuih sells out really quickly. So if I want to buy their Seri Muka kuih, I'd have to go there earlier.

Kuih Seri Muka picture from Google

Talking about kuih, there is this ridiculous kuih outlet in Sunway Pyramid which priced their kuih at such an absurb price! One kuih at Kueh Moi cost RM1.50, wtf. That's like triple the price of normal kuih!

Bazaar Ramadhan Seksyen 16, PJ

I'm only including this Seksyen 16 bazzar because of the famous Popiah Basah. Like every other good food, you would need to queue for it. I waited in the line under the rain okay? And I wasn't the only one so now you know how famous it is!

Popiah Basah Stall

The uncle who mends the stall is very friendly. He engages in small talks with the customers too. I like friendly sellers even if they already have so much existing customers.

I bought two rolls of popiah because it was my first time trying it. Oh man! I should have bought extra! haha There were orders in 10s and 20s too!

Beautiful thin skin, as thin as the ones that's used to wrap Peking Duck!

Yummilicious filling

This popiah is really worth the queue because it tasted so good! The vegetables where rolled in generously and it wasn't too wet. I don't like it if the seller doesn't strains his vegetables before rolling them in because it would make the popiah very soggy.

But the most important taste that made this popiah so good was the prawn paste!! I could actually find a few shrimps inside!!!! They didn't scrooge on the prawn paste ingredient so the popiah was bursting in sweet seafood flavor. Hard to find generous sellers that don't scrooge on expensive ingredients. Very good, very very good.

Bazaar Ramadhan Shah Alam

I haven't got a change to actually visit this bazaar because I'd need to travel a bit but I manage to sample some of the food from that bazaar. Guess what they have? Fried mushroom!!! My favourite snack back at home!

Mum would also do tempura mushrooms/ yam for me when I'm home!

Fried Mushroom, RM2

The mushrooms has some seasoning on it. I think you can choose what toppings you want. Last year I went to Kelana Jaya Ramadhan Bazaar and they were selling fried mushrooms with cheese seasonings!!! The only downfall is that you would be able to have few decent pieces of mushrooms and the rest in the paper bags are just crumbs.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Knife

Been watching quite a number of TV series these days while I still can. One of my favourite TV series would be Hell's Kitchen because it's just exciting watching chefs whip up dishes while getting whipped at the same time (by Chef Ramsey, lolol).

Hell's Kitchen Season 12

I realised that at every beginnning of the season, each chef will be given a set of knives. Zwilling J.A. Henckels knife! That made me really envious because as odd as it sounds I love knives!

Whenever I'm feeling troubled like when there is too much in my brain... I'll just get my cheapskate knife out and chop garlic! That would make me feel much better immediately:D

So I was ecstatic that Aeon was giving out free J.A. knives! Of course to redeem them you would need to collect stickers. For every RM30 spent, you will get a sticker. Collect the number of stickers needed to exchange for the knife that you want.

(Thanks to my sis and mum and aunties who helped me spend in Aeon just to collect more stickers)

I really wanted the chef's knife but that was like 60 over stickers I think so I couldn't reach target on time when the deadline came. But at least I manage to redeem a small J.A. knife!! WOOT!

Chef knife that I wanted

J.A.

My Zwilling knife:
  • Ice hardened blade
  • Blade of stainless steel special steel
  • Non- slip comfortable handles
  • Integrated logo- to make me feel good :P

Vegetable knife in casing

My pretty vegetable knife

This is probably used to cut fruits or like peel onions or something. It's really small so I won't be able to use it for cutting chicken or even to cut a pumpkin but I'm still very excited about it! Finally I have a J.A. knife, which of course makes me feel good (if not great) slicing and dicing!

If I had the extra cash I would have top up another RM50 to get that chef's knife. Oh well, I'm counting my blessings:)

Bandung Day 1: Paris Van Java, Richeese Factory, Jco Donuts, 2Tang + Local products

I'm actually so surprised with myself for writing about my Bandung trip so quickly! Haha

A little background of why I decided to go for a holiday was that the journey of my Honours program was really very much like living hell- You're not allowed to die, but living is just plain torture. That was how it was for the entire year. While the rest of my friends got to have their summer holiday (November 2013- February 2014), I was working my ass off collecting data for my study.

So I reached I breaking point where I thought I deserved a good long holiday without breaking my bank of course. One day I was out eating Ayam Penyet for dinner and we were talking about holiday experiences. Then it just strucked me "I have to visit Indonesia!".

First, I contacted Gaya my long 'lost' high school friend who is in her final year in Bandung. Once she told me that she could accommodate me on the dates I proposed, I immediately purchased an air flight ticket!

Air flight tics RM360, 20kg baggage to Bandung RM55, 20kg baggage back to KL RM55.

(I will tell you the kecoh baggage story later prolly on the last day in Bandung post)

My 6 days 5 night holiday to Bandung, Indonesia started off really well! I slept through the 2 hours flight which made the travel duration seem short. Reached Husein Sastranegara International Airport in Bandung, and woah! It's a small airport- with only one counter to collect your baggage and they even needed man power to go inside and get it for you.

So happy to see Gaya waiting for me at the exit of the airport!! Thank you Gaya!!

I was very fortunate because she told me she didn't had a chance to pick her mum nor her tutor from the airport when they came. Luckily, she could when it was my turn hehehe

First stop was to her place obviously. Its really close to the airport, I think it took about 20 minutes.

Once reached, it was lunch time!!! Btw, Gaya (and her housemates) has a maid in the house! So all the cleaning, cooking, washing are done by the maid :O

Indonesian milk

One of the first question was whether Indonesia produce their own milk because I would love to try it. Gaya immediately took out her stash from the fridge and I had a try. Well, it tasted very much like our milk here in Malaysia. So I wasn't all excited and jumpy like how I was with Kave in Sydney, lol.

Indonesian milk used in Starbucks, Indonesia

This brand of milk on the other hand is used in Starbucks, Indonesia to produce their beverages. I didn't try it because I assumed it wouldn't taste much different and Gaya haven't opened this carton of milk yet.

Day 1 lunch

For lunch, I had free meal cooked by Gaya's maid. We call her 'ibu', initially it felt weird because I don't like calling people mother other than my mum because my mum is the only female on earth that I would call mum LOL I wonder what will I call my mother- in- law next time? :X

But anyway, everyone addresses an older lady by ibu and an older man by pak. So the free meal cooked by ibu was tempeh sambal (spicy fermented soybean), sayur masak lemak (vege cooked w coconut milk), terung kicap (dark soy sauce brinjal) and some steam egg kinda dish.

My favourite was the tempeh and brinjal! Yums!

Day 1 free lunch

I also met Gaya's crazy awesome friends- Suba and Darshini. They are all med students. I was very chill when I planned for this holiday even if it's in Bandung because I knew that I will be staying with a house full of doctors, right in front of Bandung's big hospital. So even if I get like diarrhea or some kinda illness I know I'm in good hands, lol.

I suppose it was teatime for Darsh because she was making coffee, I stole a picture of her coffee and tried some too. It's also made in Indonesia:

Good Day Cappuccino

Instant Cappuccino

It comes with an extra chocolate packet that you can sprinkle on top of your drink but I think Darsh sprinkled and stirred them in already. It tasted okay, but too sweet for me so decided to buy Tora Bika's Cappuccino back instead.

After lunch, we just hung out in the house a while talking to my new friends. Then when it was dinner time, we went to Bandung's famous mall Paris Van Jawa or commonly known as PVJ. Located at Jl. Sukajadi it was just an Angkut (cheap taxi- like) away!

Though PVJ is considered their most posh mall, it (the shops) is considered a fraction of what we have to offer here in KL. Oh, but they have Diary Queens and we don't, lol.

PVJ at night

Exterior of PVJ, morning

PVJ morning

Pretty lights in PVJ

Dairy Queen

Now I remember why Dairy Queen is so familiar. I tried it in Singapore before! LOL Wanted to treat Gaya to come ice- cream or milkshake from here on the last day in Bandung because she had been so nice to me throught my stay but when that day came it was all a rush and the 4D movie ended at 11.30pm so all shops were closed:(

Before dinner, I had Jco donuts for pre- dinner snack. I know we have Jco back in Malaysia too but I'm sure we don't have the Cronut! Oh do we? lol Anyway, Jco donuts originated from Indonesia so it is a must try for me. Wanted to compare how it tasted back at the place of origin and here in Malaysia.

Jco Donuts
Paris Van Jawa, Ground Floor
Delivery: (022) 82063698

Cronuts from Jco

Oh, and my Cronut & donut were free because Gaya bought them for me:D

Jco donuts in the making

Donut/ Cronut box

I took a picture of the donut box because I was impressed that they gave me a box even if I only bought two pieces! Back here in Malaysia, you would only get your donuts in the box if you buy at least half a dozen. If you were to buy one or two pieces then they would just give it to you in that paper holder thingy. Very hard to bring back without disfiguring your donuts.

My picks were:
  • Jcronut Original, IDR16,600 (Apprx. RM5)
  • Durio Dela Creme donut,  IDR6,500 (Appx. RM2)

Cinnamon Kiss was so flaky, light and yummy!

Then we proceeded to real dinner! They brought me to a fast food restaurant call Richeese Factory. Obviously by the name itself you would know they they serve food with cheeeeeese!

Richeese Factory

Say Cheese!

BBQ Chicken with cheese

This is how you do it :D

Richeese serves really good BBQ chicken! They come with cheese dips as well. The cheese dips are similar to the cheese used on KFC's cheesy wedges. Who knew that cheese would go so well with BBQ Chicken!

Also you can pick your level of spiciness for the chicken. I choose Level 1 which is the lowest on the hot scale. I was being careful because I didn't know what to expect of Indonesian's definition of spiciness. According to Darsh, the level 2 BBQ sauce for the chicken is already very spicy for her.

They also have potato wedges. Served with BBQ sauce at the bottom and cheese sauce on top of the potato. For the wedges, Gaya said you could either choose Level 1 (spicy) or non- spicy. She choose Level 1 for the wedges and Oh Gosh! It was spicy!!

Somehow the Level 1 for wedges and the Level 1 spiciness for chicken is different.

Cheesy potato wedges.

Love their wedges because it tasted like real fresh potatoes. Didn't really fancy the BBQ sauce that came together with the potato though.

By the way, if you want more cheese sauce you can request for it for FREE! No extra charge! In KFC I think you will need to pay extra RM1 for extra cheese sauce right? So eat your cheesy hearts out in Richeese!

  • Fire Wings 6 pcs BBQ      IDR 29,545 ( appx RM9.50)
  • Mirinda drink                    IDR 11,364  (appx RM3.50)
  • BBQ Cheesy Wedges       IDR 41,818  (appx RM12)

Dinner was free also! Thank Gaya!

After dinner, Darsh bought jasmine tea from 2Tang which was located right outside Richeese Factory. Yummy tea, not too sweet and has that right amount of jasmine hint! Not too sure about the price, but I think the picture with the banner would give you a clue to how much it will cost.

That marks the end of Day 1 in Bandung!

FYI, for those who are travelling to Indonesia I think it would be good to get a local SIM cad. I got my friend to help me buy my SIM card. I only needed data package so I got the 600mb one. I think it cost about RM11 but it made my life so convinient! I could whatsapp my love ones on a regular basis and I could also Facebook/ Instagram picture!

SimPATI- The Maxis of Indonesia

I'm ending my Day 1 post with a few snacks that I have tried during my stay in Indonesia. Obviously there is more to it because Indomaret (24 hours convinient store) was situated a few doors away from where I stayed LOL

My favourite out of the whole stash was the Sponge Crunch and the Richeese Wafer

Yes! Richeese also produces other snacks that you could buy off supermarket shelves! Very yummy Richeese cheese wafer snacks (appx RM2) I stashed some home. The Sponge Crunch (appx RM4) was very yummy too! It was so chocolatey depsite it looking like some cheap chocolate snack.  Too bad they didn't had chocolate flavour when I wanted to purchase some back home:(

Ron88 mineral water

I read blogs before and they mentioned this water. I think Darsh mentioned that this cute 250ml of mineral water cost approximately RM0.30. I tried the water but nah, don't really like it. Too sharp for tasting. Actually it tasted a bit like distilled water.

Nevertheless, I'd still buy it for the cute bottle!

Luwak White coffee, RM0.30 per sachet | ABC coffee RM0.30 per sachet

I loved the Luwak White coffee! So I bought one pack back for my dad and mum. Really good! Gaya told me its their pioneer coffee. On the other hand, do NOT go near buying that ABC coffee. It was horrible! They had coffee bits floating everywhere when you pour in hot water.

The good thing is that you could actually buy one sachet of coffee by the roadside stalls for IDR 1,000 so you get to try them before deciding which to buy back home.

Banana milk RM1.50 | Buavita Mix Berries Juice RM3 | Teh Gelas RM2

Banana milk didn't taste as good as the Korean banana milk but its half the price of the Korean banana milk so for that it tasted relatively okay.

Buavita juice was rather good, a bit on the sweeter side but it tasted like real juice. Teh Gelas sucks! So sweet and tasted so chemical-ish! I couldn't finish that pack of tea.

My ultimate favourite is the Teh Botol. Teh Kotak taste similar to Teh Botol but on the sweeter side.

The end, stay tune for Day 2 Bandung!
