Water Works Laksa @ Jalan Kolam Air, JB

This is the last stale post in my draft! So after this I can catch up with my latest food hunt in Kuching and Pattaya! WOOT! So I'm a proud Johorean and even if my state isn't as famous as Penang in terms of food, we still have pretty good food if you know where to find.

I bet most people have heard of Water Works Laksa at Kolam Air, JB but I decided to note this down in my blog because this place always reminds me of my grandparents, my mum's side that is. My grandparents, I call them ah kong (grandpa) and ah ma (grandma) would often patronise this place usually for breakfast and then pack back their famous laksa and otak- otak for us. My ah ma still does that till today though whenever my uncle brings her for breakfast there.

I personally find that the laksa is a little overrated though they do have really good otak- otak. But the otak- otak aren't produced in house anyway. But whenever I hear about this place, it makes my heart all fuzzy because it's has a sentimental value attached to it. I miss my ah kong;'(

So if you haven't tried it, give it a go!

Water Works Laksa
Jalan Kolam Air, JB

This is the shop that you are looking for.

The road leading there is a one way street so if you miss it you will have to make a round back to that one way street. People usually park illegally along the roads but yeah, so far no problem from the police HAHA

I'll show you the otak- otak which I like first! I think it tasted better when we had it there at the shop. Somehow when it gets packed back home and reheated it doesn't taste as good but by no means lousy.

A basket of otak- otak placed on every table

If you're not interested in it then just don't touch it and you won't be charged. But for me, I doubt a basket is enough LOL

Inside!

Another thing that I like about Water Works laksa is that they have their own in house drinks like this cincau drink! Love how natural and homemade it is. Not as sweet as other shops usually served them which is a plus because I'm not a big fan of sweet stuffs. Yes, despite my flabby body I don't have a sweet tooth. Can't say the same for carbs though. I loveeee crabs especially when it comes in the form of bread and pastries :X

Cincau drink

The famous laksa!

I think this is the small version of the laksa. If Ive not mistaken it comes in different serving portion with respective prices. A small one would cost about RM5 I think? Sorry this blog post has been sitting in drafts since a few months ago so my memory fails me.

You see the greenish garnish on the laksa? Well, that's something that I don't personally fancy because it makes gives out this weird smell and taste. Not sure what leaf is that though? Is that like turmeric leaf???

The taste of the soup infected by that garnish gives me a headache. No joke, I really don't like that garnish just like how some people really hate parsley. OMG is that parsley?!

Side dish, fried beancurd skin. DAMN expensive!

Mum ordered an extra serving of fried beancurd skin and for that few miserable hollow pieces they charge us almost the same price as a bowl of laksa! I forgot how much exactly but I remembered clearly that it was so not worth it. I think they gave us like 5- 6 pieces of beancurd skin without any fish paste inside k! So expensive and after eating them, my throat felt funny like how you would feel after eating oily stuff.

Oh! I found a picture of the menu for your easy reference!

Okay, I got to go finish my work and then start on my Kuching and Pattaya food hunt! To whoever who's still reading this, thanks for sticking on despite my lack of update for more than a month. PhD kills seriously.

Ah Weng Koh Breakfast @ Imbi Market, KL

Went jogging the other day with sis. After that's done we had breakfast guilt free HAHAHA Well, breakfast is the most important meal of the day! So I asked her what she wanted to have and she said breakfast at Imbi. Initially I was lazy to drive all the way into town so I convinced her to have breakfast at the nearby coffee shops.

But the sun really shined upon her the other day because when we were at the coffee shop I myself didnt know what to eat. Everything seem... heavy. So I conceded and drover us both to Imbi Market for the famous toast!

Ah Weng Koh Hainanese Tea
Imbi Market a.k.a. Pasar Bukit Bintang

It was a Sunday morning around 9am but the food area at the market was soooo packed! There weren't any seats left but since I drove so far I was not gonna leave before having breakfast as planned. So I had to stand right next to a table that look like they were finishing their food. I didn't give them pressure to hurry up and leave the table but you know I just stood there with hawk eyes on their stools:S

Hungry people in the morning

Finally they left soon after, quickly sat down. Had to share the table with three groups of unknowns but that was inevitable especially in that circumstance. Oh yes, while I was waiting for my table itself I see this old man holding up to 10 cups of coffee/tea and yelling on top of his lungs HELLO! HELLO! HELLO! to signal that he's coming through.

That was super intimidating! He wasn't rude or anything but he seem to be in such a hurry and he was yelling like non stop and he was taking orders in Cantonese I thought I'm dead meat. Anyway, managed to flag him to our table and I quickly told him 2 set buns 2 coffee.

Toasted buns with thick slab of butter and kaya

According to my sister who has been here before, there are two types of toast. They have normal toast bread and toast bun. I had the bun, shown in the picture above.

LOOK AT THE BUTTERRRR

This shop is really generous with their butter! It's a huge slice of butter sandwich in between your hot toast so it tasted so so good! Usually kopitiam will scrooge on their butter so much so you only wished you had made your own breakfast at home. But the funny thing is homemade toast and eggs doesnt taste as good as outside's, I have no idea why LOL

Talking about eggs, I forgot to order eggs! Actually when I told the uncle that I wanted two sets of bread, somehow in my mind that meant I wanted the toast to come with eggs. When our bread and coffee came, he was in such a hurry that he threw my change on the table even before I handed him money HAHAHHA He meant no disrespect but I suppose it's just now market folks are.

So ya, I didn't dare ask him for eggs.

About the coffee, I'm not a big coffee fan but my sis told me that it's their signature drink so I decided to give it a go. But! Apparently I ordered the wrong beverage. It was supposed to be Hainanese Tea which is kind of a mixture of coffee and tea. I ordered Coffee. I thought they only sold one type of famous beverage! wtf was I thinking LOL So Coffee turned out to be bitter and super thick milk coffee! Mum would love it but I only manage a few sips.

Two sets of toast (buns) and coffee cost RM8.40.

Nearby laksa stall

To compensate myself, I ordered Laksa from the stall nearby where I was sitting. The gravy was very good! Thick and fragrant! Love the coconut milk taste in the curry!! Quite a lot of ingrediants also for RM6! There goes my jogging effort LOL So much for insisting on a light breakfast.

Meehoon Laksa RM6

The uncle cooking the laksa was very nice and friendly even if he was super busy. I'm very intimidated of those busy uncles and aunties because they tend to be rude and they would scream at you if you are not fast enough in ordering or if you order using a language that they don't understand:S Back to the uncle, he was very nice and I was glad his laksa turned out nice too! The lady helping him isn't as friendly as he is though so I just ignored her HAHAHHA

Sis ordered Nasi Lemak, RM1.50 from this random lady walking around with her tray of nasi lemak. It's a nay on the nasi lemak though. Not fragrant enough, so sad looking too. Still feel I make one of the best Nasi Lemak!

RM1.50 Nasi Lemak- Rice topped with sambal and a tiny winy slice of egg

I'm planning to go back for more toast though and half boiled EGGS!, during the weekdays that is, because my chicken heart can't take the seat wrestling, screaming uncle ordering and the people starring at me as I eat kind of situation. Told sis we will go back on weekdays, 8am! Take that! HAHA

RM6.99 Fish & Chips @ Manhattan Fish Market

I was suppose to be writing about this last week but it was a busy week conducting interviews so I totally forgot about it! I'm a big fan of Manhattan Fish Market when they have their cheap fish promo!! Fish and Chips starts from RM6.99!!!! If you are reading this and you didn't know about this ongoing promo the last day for this promo is TOMORROW (26 May 2015!) so hurry!! Still sempat!

I usually jumped at this opportunity because on normal days fish is too expensive to consume:X

Manhattan Fish Market

If you check out their menu, Dory would be the cheapest fish for fish and chips that would cost you RM6.99 (excluding GST). They have better fishes like Salmon serving at RM11.99 I think? I tried their Cherry Red Snapper the other time they had the same promo and it was terrible- fried fish was so damn soggy inside!

So this time I decided that Dory is a sure thing but I really wanted to try Salmon too. In the end, I had both Dory and Salmon and I realised that whenever MFM is having this promo, I should just stick to Dory. My Dory came pretty happy with a good portion of fries and salad:

Dory Fish & Chips, RM6.99 ONLY!!

Add on were going for RM3.99! They offer you 3 starters going for cheap which are the chowder of the day, fried tortilla with cheese and squid fries. I tried the Squid Fries and it was definately a good choice for an add on!

LOVEEEE the honey mustard sauce that came with the squid fries. Despite receiving a rather small portion of squid fries, probably 7- 8 strands of squid, I'd order it again just because it really tasted good with the dips! So easy kena con LOL

Squid Fries, RM3.99

Squid Fries + Fish & Chips

You can choose to grill your Dory as well but it wouldn't come looking as happy as the fried one.

Grilled Salmon with mash potato and steamed vege, RM11.99++

My salmon was sad. I was served such a thin cut of salmon and it was way over cooked! So the Salmon tasted so dry and sad. Even the sauce on top couldn't conceal its dryness from overcooking:S

On the other hand, the vegetables were under cooked. Of course they just blanched the vegetables to give it a crunch but this was like almost eating raw broccoli and carrot. Something that turn me off so bad that I couldn't down another piece:(

I thought the mash potato was okay, just that they put too much garlic in it so it tasted like mashed garlic potato. I think it tasted better when they were using beef gravy, if I've not mistaken. My eating companion wasn't please at all at the mashed potato though, thought that it horrible. Yikes!

So conclusion, go only for the RM6.99 fried Dory Fish and Chips! Cheap and Good!! Everybody happy, easy peasy!

Revisit: N Square Restaurant @ Bandar Dato Onn, JB

Hello! Just finish intensive theory writing so I decided to take a break before I proceed to other sections of writing. Making full use of my good mood now before it swings back to depression once I start thinking and writing again LOL The plan was to go out to IKEA and Tesco for window shopping and to see if there's any nice yet cheap CNY stuff for me to buy.

When I was about to change and get ready to go out, I felt hungry so decided to warm up my nasi lemak for lunch to scrooge on food a bit. But after lunch, I got a bit sleepy so I think my plan to go out today is postponed till further notice:S

Hence, I'm here churning out another blog post that I was suppose to write a few weeks back but was too busy getting depressed LOL

This is a revisit post on...

N Square Restaurant
62 Jalan Perjiranan 2
Bandar Dato Onn, Johor Bahru

If you read my previous post on N Square, you would know that I thought their milkshake needed some fixing because it tasted more like ice blended than milkshake.

So this time, my sis gave it another shot because she was craving for milkshake anyway. The owner dropped me a comment on my blog ensuring that she would improve the recipe of it and she did! Was surprised that she asked of my opinion of the improved version of milkshake. Never thought that she would remember, since the diner was packed.

Strawberry Banana Milkshake, RM8

Now it really taste like milky milkshake!! Super love it especially when it's only for RM8! Now it's nice and creamy, not icey anymore. If you order this strawberry banana milkshake, you're in for a thick milkshake treat!

Aglio Olio Spaghetti, RM14 (if I've not mistaken)

The spaghetti is good! Not too oily, nicely flavoured with mild herbs. This is my mum's favourite dish! My sis ordered one serving for herself too. It was a little hard to peel the prawns but they were generous with their seafood so you got yourself a steal!

Baked Homemade Meatballs, RM10

This is a MUST HAVE please! Was super excited when I saw this on their menu. Oh ya, I think they recently revamped their menu and I noticed a few new items on it! This meatball dish is tucked under "Main Dish" section but I think it serves us well as a shared appetizer.

Fishing out the crazy amount of cheese

Meatballs soaked in tomato gravy and topped with lots and lots and lots of crazy gooey cheese!!! So much cheese till I thought RM10 wouldn't be enough to cover the cost for the cheese! This dish is served with garlic bread and it was such a spectacular dish, I'd prolly name it as N Square's signature dish!

I'm sorry but I have to spam you with more pictures of this Baked Homemade Meatballs because it's so good that a picture or two just won't do! If you want more meatballs, you can request for them I think RM1 for additional piece? Something like that.

Beeeeeef!

Scooping out the chunks of juicy meatballs

Ugh! So much cheese... need both hands to scoop!

Oh baby! LOL

Grilled Chicken Chop, RM12 (I think)

The last dish was the grilled chicken chop! As usual very generous amount of chicken given all very nicely cooked. Love it that they don't overcook the chicken, I've tasted many cheap chicken chops that always overcook their chicken till its all dry and sad.

Valentine's Day is coming so this could be one of your options to consider if you want good food, generous serving but such low price!

Baba Low's 486, Bangsar

Going back to my hometown soon so we can start the Chinese New Year (CNY) baking! This year we're making 4 types of snack: Suji biscuits, Seaweed Popiah, Almond Brittle and Honey Cornflakes! The other types of snack liks pineapple tarts and prawn rolls will probably be bought because it's just too much work to make from scratch :P

Btw, I have two books sitting next to me waiting for me to be read but I kind of lost all working motivation so I decided that today will be my cheat day! No work, just blogging and catching up on Running Man! WOOT! Okay, maybe I'll squeeze in some time to read later when I'm done making myself happy, lolol.

Last week, I had nyonya cuisine for lunch!

Baba Low's 486
Lorong Kurau, Bangsar

I'm not a very big fan of nyonya food because somehow the cuisine makes my tongue and brain confused :S But I don't mind having them once in a while. Oh, I obviously don't mind having Portuguese steam fish! Wait, is Portuguese fish a Nyonya cuisine??

Baba Low's

This shop is quite hidden. It's not situated at the Telawi area where usually food shops are at. So I consider it a hidden gem since it isn't so easy to spot but the food hunt trip was worth it!

On the side note, just thinking this thought out loud.. Are there very limited baba names? I often hear the name Baba Low. I've never heard of like... Baba Chan :S

My table and the serenity view from my seat

Wooden tables and chairs

Interior of Baba Low's

Huge menu board. Check it out for the day's special.

Baba Low is a very simple shop. Nothing fancy,it actually looks like a cleaner version of our normal coffee shops. Coffee shops as in hawker food centre not coffee shops like Starbucks LOL Good thing about places like this is that my meal would definately be cheaper than RM10!

This is how I judge my food:

  • < RM3 Very Cheap
  • RM3 to RM4 Cheap
  • RM5 to RM10 Affordable
  • RM11 to RM16 Pricey
  • RM 17 to RM30 Once in two weeks indulgence
  • > RM30 Big occasions i.e. Birthdays, Anniversary, Graduation, Hen Night, Baby Shower etc

Menu

So most of the items found on the menu is within my "Affordable" range so that makes me a happy eater! I usually cook during weekdays so weekend is eating out day! Usually I'll treat myself food from the Affordable to the Pricey range but of course cheaper is always better LOL

Here is what you can get with RM10 in your pocket:

Nyonya Laksa RM7

This Nyonya Laksa was yummy! The gravy tasted like those Lemak/ Lodeh Sayur's gravy! Quite generous with ingrediants such as fishcakes, tofu ad egg. Also, I noticed that they are very generous with shredded cucumbers.

You can choose to have yellow noodles, mee siam or kuey teow to go with your Laksa. I'm always with the yellow noodles if I'm having laksa or curry mee.

Mee Siam RM6

They gave me a lot of mee siam and a lot of shredded cucumbers! I like it that the mee siam was moist enough even without having gravy poured on top. The mee siam didn't had as much ingrediants as the laksa though.

Drinks was Ice Water, RM0.50. Yes water is not free here unlike N Square Restaurant. Iced tea was RM2.50. Tea probably isn't their forte. It tasted quite bitter and diluted, not enough milky taste too so paying RM2.50 for that was too much.

Oh ya, the parking spaces there are very limited so you gotta somehow squeeze your car and jump down for lunch. The bright side, it's a very quiet area so somehow you will get your parking, one way or another.

Chee Cheong Fun @ Seow Fong Lye, Macalister Lane

This is going to be a quick post before I go off for dinner. Dinner is chicken rice today!!! The only downside to it? I cooked too less chicken so each of us only has 3 pieces of tiny chicken so I fried 4 eggs to compensate:S Seems like buying one whole chicken isn't worth it after all because the chicken is so skinny. Next time I'm just gonna continue buying chicken parts. Hmph.

Taking us back to Penang! Yes, food post on Penang has not ended because we tried out so many food and I haven't been the most diligent lately in blogging LOL Maybe it's because my trip to Penang is just for relax and makan so food blogging is just a plus.

Chee Cheong Fun @ Seow Fong Lye
Macalister Lane

This is the Chee Cheong Fun push cart that you should be looking for

And this is the coffee shop that the push cart is at.

Chee Cheong Fun is opened for breakfast as early as 8am if I've not mistaken and it goes on till about noon when she runs out of chee cheong fun to sell. So it would be great if you're able to drag yourself out of bed in the morning and head over for some yummy breakfast before it gets sold out!

I was craving for chee cheong fun even before my Penang trip so I googled for it in Penang since I was going there anyway. Just google "Penang Chee Cheong Fun" and lots of reviews pointed me to this particular one!

What's so special you ask?

THIS.
Very smooth and soft chee cheong fun topped with some sesame oil, sprinkled with sesame seeds and served with THICK prawn paste, sweet sauce and chili sauce!!!

My God! This is to die for! She was very generous with her prawn paste and the prawn paste was very very extremely thick and concentrated! No scrooge on prawn paste there! You should see her drizzle the thick sticky prawn paste on your plate, I bet your jaw will drop wide open!

It was just a very simple dish. No fancy fillings in the chee cheong fun like some shops offer (e.g. prawns) but culinary skills seriously lies in simplicity.

Give it all a nice stir. Can smell the prawn paste smell, crazy good!!

Price?
  • 2 strips of chee cheong fun, RM2
  • 3 strips of chee cheong fun  RM3

I had the 2 strips at first and obviously it wasn't enough but we had to rush back for our bus to KL. So I packed 3 more strips back home!! The lady was very nice to separate the sauces for me. She somehow knew that I travelling back home LOL

I regretted only buying 3 strips back because it wasn't enough :(

Btw, I had the take- away chee cheong fun the next day and it was still very tasty and fresh. What sorcery is this? :O

Take- away Macalister Lane chee cheong fun

Breakfast with my sis who felt that 2 strips was enough for her because "noodles" fill her yummy up fast LOL

SS Spicy Food @ Jalan Belfield, Kampung Attap KL

Last Sunday, I suggested for us to have lunch at Kg. Attap but to our dismay the stall was closed so we ended up eating at Pavillion's foodcourt. Don't ask, long story LOL Anyway, I was introduced to Kg. Attap by my bestie, Nit several years back and it is my favourite place to have mix rice because I love their deep fried cauliflower!!

Their deep fried cauliflower is da bomb! Every time when they lift it up from the wok and into the tray, the cauliflower will be snatched up by people so fast that you wouldn't be able to catch it despite being 3 people away :O

So you want their famous deep fried cauliflower? You gotta rush the Malaysian style HAHAHHA I'll show the the cauliflower later, I managed to whack half a plate of them!

SS Spicy Food
Jalan Belfield aka Kg. Attap

So apparently they do have a stall's name and it's called "SS Spicy Food". I still call it Kg. Attap stall though LOL I think I've ever read about their curry fish head but I've never tried because not a big fan of fish head.

Waze yourself to Jalan Belfield and you would see the stall (as shown in picture below).

SS Spicy Food aka Kg. Attap

There's usually no problem finding a parking there because people would just simply by the side of the road and that's okay. The place is rather quiet so traffic isn't a problem too.

Self service

At SS Spicy Food aka Kg. Attap they cook the food there (See the man cooking behind?) and then turn around and place the freshly cooked food on the island table for you to pick and choose! So food there is usually hot from the kitchen!

You would need to queue to get your rice. The guy will ask you whether you want white rice or beryiani. Yes, they serve beryiani too but I've yet to try. Always go there, my goal is to whack all the fried cauliflower LOLOL. But I saw people eating beryiani and it looks quite yummy too! Wouldn't mind giving it a shot next time!

So once you have your rice, you move on to select your dishes. I like their curry lots so I'll usually mix several diferent curry gravy on my rice. Then I'll push through the line and quickly put as much fried cauliflower as I can on my plate without thinking of how much they would charge me later HAHA Then, I'll usually go for their... um, dry sambal chicken? Yums!

Lunch that day

So this was what we had for lunch that day:
  • Rice, mix curry & HALF a plate of fried cauliflower RM5
  • Teh ais & Teh- O Ais RM3
  • Rice, mix curry, fried chicken, fried fish & egg RM12

Their pricing is very reasonable so if you're around that area, might wanna give it a shot! You MUST MUST MUST try their cauliflower. When it's served piping hot, I swear it doesn't taste like vege! More like some kinda of snack, I must say. *Mindblown

A few pictures of the seating area. Sometimes it's hard to find for a place to seat especially peak hours but the guys there are very kind so they will help you find seats. We had to share a table with this lady who was finishing her meal that day, good that she chao soon after LOL

Very cooling seating area

A view from my seat. Eat first, pay later.

Nasi Kandar Beratur & Restoran KSB Cahaya (Abu), Penang

It's a wonderful Saturday morning despite me being woken up by the loud drilling noise next door. Neighbours must be doing some renovation. Wondering when can I get a place of my own?

Anyway, I was suppose to write about China House before I write this post if it were to be chronological but China House has (present tense, because my sis's friend who is in Penang now experienced the same thing) such bad service i.e. waiter/ waitresses were impatient, rude and syok sendiri, I somehow feel demotivated to write about their mediocre food.

So I decided to skip China House, God knows why people are so crazy about that shop, and write about this instead!

Restoran Nasi Kandar Beratur
Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling

This is the famous Nasi Kandar Beratur at night, situated right next to the mosque

This stall opens only after 10pm.

I repeat, ONLY after 10pm because before that there is also another Nasi Kandar owner selling at the the same venue. The first time I was there, about a year back I accidentally bought the wrong nasi kandar thinking why all the hype when Pelita back in KL tasted better. Good thing I got suspicious of the long queue and found out that the Nasi Kandar Beratur has yet opened! fml, LOL.

After China House (yucks!), at baout 9.40pm we headed to Nasi Kandar beratur. At that time there was already a line formed but the line wasn't monstrous yet so it was okay. I'm couting about 10 people before my turn?
Queuing for Nasi Kandar Beratur at 9.40pm

Waited and waited and waited. Finally at around 10pm, the before 10 Nasi Kandar stall shut down and made way for the Nasi Kandar Beratur. I felt a little bad for the before 10 nasi kandar because he must feel shitty about his business. Even before he shuts, probably about 9pm people where already queuing outside his shop but only for someother people's food not his:S

It took the Nasi Kandar Beratur guys so long to set their stall up. All their food has been cooked somewhere else and then pushed in a cart to the venue. Just that they had to wash the stall, yes as in use water and all. Then, they had to arrange their dishes properly. When they finally turned on the lights everyone perked up quickly!

HAHAHAHA thinking back, felt like we were so deperate for his rice.

Finally, lights up! And the Nasi Kandar Beratur business begins!

This was soon to be my turn. I look like a hungry monster with fat thighs here. I'm sure it's just the wrong angle:X

Stuffing my head in the corner to tell the guy what I wanted.

Somehow I always feel very rushed when I order my food at Nasi Kandar beratur because subconsiously I know that the line, by now a monstrous line, is behind me and that I should not hog the line. I think most people feel the same way as I did and that is why they will ask their son/ daughter/ dad/ relative to go check out what dishes do they have before it reaches their turn.

Waited for nearly half an hour to 45 minutes for dinner!

Sorry, this is the only picture I've got.

The thing is I didn't care about how the food looks when I unwrapped it back in the hotel because I was soooooo hungry! I ordered rice, fried chicken (thigh) and beef with kari campur kuah banyak gravy, RM10. CHEAP!

Chicken
One big piece of chicken thigh, nicely seasoned and deep fried. So crispy despite it bathing in kuah campur. I'm amazed! Must get Double fried chicken next time round.

Beef
Two large chunks of tender beef. Not need chew till dentures come off! It's so tender and flavourful as if they slow cooked their beef.

Naomi was initially having windy stomach due to our crazy eating time in Penang. It was hard to tell what was breakfast, lunch or dinner there because our mouths were just nomming non stop at odd hours throughout the day and her tummy must have been shocked to some extend LOL So she decided not to buy Nasi Kandar Beratur.

I warned her time after time that she would regret that decision! But she didn't head my advice. Once we were back in the hotel I gave her some fried chicken and she was sold! Out of the blue, her stomach wasn't windy anymore, lmao. Taking pity on her, I gave her half of my dinner.

Till now, she craves the Nasi Kandar Beratur so we're planning for a trip back when our finances allow :P

Me with the biker mural

So, since I shared my dinner I wasn't full. Decided to have supper. Actually supper in Penang is a must especially when you live right across a night hawker street. Regardless, I was very grateful to be recommended supper at this shop instead of the hawker.

Note: I had to haul the sleepy head out for supper because her post- Langkawi syndrome was starting to show LOL

Restoran KSB Cahaya (aka Abu Mamak)
Macalister Lane

Abu. That's what Penang people call it I think.

Currently, they have moved to Macalister Lane from I'm- not- too- sure- where but I think this is their temporary place because they might want to move back to their old location. So as of November 2014 this is where they are.

I was told that this shop's food is a hit and miss kinda shop. Some people loves the food here but then some other people would have tummyache and diarrhea thanks to the food here. Nevertheless, they do have a large variety of Roti to choose from! Think Murni at SS2, similar concept.

Menu board

Ugh. I forgot what they call this. Something like Roti Bakar Kahwin and Power I think?

Roti Kahwin because it the butter kaya toast comes in a pair like married couple. Power refers to the half boiled eggs. Quite amusing names I must say, but fun to know! This set cost about RM5 if I have not mistaken. Our bills were counted in aggregate so I'm only guessing the bill breakdown.

I totally forgot the name of this Roti but according to Naomi, this is Roti USA. Should be around RM5.

Roti USA is buttered toast topped with fried egg, sausage, cheese and another egg, drizzled with chili sauce. Actually, this is similar to having a big breakfast, just that they stacked each ingrediant on top of each onther rather than it being plated separately.

I think this is Roti Hong Kong. About RM4- 5 maybe?

It's practically roti telur with sliced sausages inside topped with a dollop of mayo. Nothing special though. Even if they have a large variety of roti, most of the ingredients are repeated.

This is Milo + Tea. I think they called it "TehLo". It's not on the menu but if you are their regulars you would know.

I enjoyed the kaya on the toast even if I was told that it was just cheap kaya. Cheap kaya also taste so good in Penang?!! Where can!!! Really. I enjoyed the kaya so much because it tasted so lemak-ish (coconut milk). The roti was nothing really special though and a bit pricey.

I still enjoyed supper though! And no tummyache after:D
